As people get older, of course, the face changes. Skin is looser, eyes become more huddled, the skin texture changes resulting in transparent or thinned skin. Loss of fatty tissue between your skin and muscle and bruising easily from less elasticity are all common problems. Wrinkles also appear which is completely natural. This quite often means your makeup application routine needs to adapt. Here are Paul?s tips on applying makeup for a more mature face:

  1. Eyes: Stay away from the shimmer eye-shadow. This will only emphasise any lines and wrinkles. I would recommend matte finish shadow. There are many gorgeous looks you can achieve with matte shadows. You could also add a little glitter to the mobile lid. To help hide the dreaded hood above your eye, take your crease colour a bit higher so you can see it when your eyes are open. The shading will help hide the hood. Make sure you blend the colour well and use a good eye-shadow base that is also a matte finish.
  2. Winged out eyeliner: This is loved by many and gives a great effect however on a more mature eye it is tricky to get the lines to sit as they should. I would recommend a more smoked-out look with a great blend.
  3. Lips: Bullet lipstick can bleed into the lines around your lips. To help avoid this make sure you use a lip liner and perhaps concealer around the area where the pencil meets the skin. Oil based liquid lip tends to be better. If you are using a matte lip, why not add just a bit of gloss to the bottom lip.
  4. Primer: Silicone-based primers are a magic weapon. Think of the wrinkle as a small valley, the silicone fills that valley, creating a smoother surface for you to apply your foundation.
  5. Foundation: Just because you have wrinkles doesn’t mean you have to use more or heavier makeup. When you use a full-coverage foundation or are too heavy-handed with your application, the makeup settles into the wrinkles, pronouncing them even more. Stick with a light- or medium-coverage foundation. Applying it with a damp sponge will help soften the foundation, giving it a sheerer and flawless look. Or, you may be able to ditch foundation altogether. Lightweight makeup, such as BB creams, tinted moisturizers or airbrush makeup is great for giving coverage without accentuating fine lines and wrinkles.
